Our vehicles and machinery are regularly serviced ensuring maximum fuel efficiency and alternative green fuels are used where possible. Vehicles and machinery are never left idling when not in use. We continually assess our environmental policy seeking out and implementing new advances in technology or working practices. By this we hope to continually improve our high standards and ensure that we are doing our absolute best to minimise our environmental impact.

In formulating our policy we consider all relevant environmental legislation then educate all staff.

Wildlife Care

It is important that before we undertake any work, we conduct an animal presence survey to enable us to comply with these codes. This enables us to inform you of any protected species which may be in the area and how their presence could restrict our work. Many of the animals and their habitats which we encounter are protected by law. Guidelines set out in the Wildlife and countryside Act 1981 and Countryside rights of way Act 2000 (CROW) give necessary protection to bats, badgers and nesting birds to name but a few.

Prior to commencing work on site, a wildlife disturbance assessment shall be completed where there is deemed to be a risk of disturbing a protected species.

  • Work methods shall be planned that shall reduce the environmental risk to a level which is as low as reasonably practicable.
  • The company shall ensure that the working culture encourages constructive conservation.
  • Appropriate advice shall be sought from qualified ecologists or other specialists if specific environmental interface issues are identified before, during or after operations.
  • We are committed to complying with all applicable legal requirements.

STS are committed to:

  • Seeking to continually improve our environmental performance.
  • Complying with environmental and legal requirements appropriate to our work.
  • Preventing pollution from our activities where practicable.

We achieve this by:

  • Surveying our work sites for possible environmental impacts including nesting birds, bats, and other species, (See wildlife care).
  • Consulting with regulatory authorities.
  • Ensuring our staff are thoroughly trained in best practices.
  • Using debris removed from sites to produce fuel for renewable energy sources.
