Crown Reduction and Pruning
Having trees on your property can be a real asset but they can very quickly become a problem if they aren’t properly looked after. Obviously, it’s a good thing that trees grow but they can start to get in the way, adopt unattractive shapes, block light or just get too big. Trees can even damage their own health in the way they grow or become dangerous. Sussex Tree Specialists’ experienced tree trimmers offer pruning for aesthetic, safety or tree health purposes and can carry out crown thinning or shaping, pollarding and pruning or whatever is most appropriate to give you the result you want.
Crown Reduction & Pruning Services
Reshaping a tree or clearing away part of a tree that is causing an obstruction or blocking a view can be tempting to do yourself but doing it incorrectly can permanently damage trees. When thinning tree crowns, we remove tree limbs evenly throughout the tree’s crown to ensure the crown’s weight is distributed evenly so as not to put undue stress on any part of the tree. Tree thinning is also sometimes done to allow more air and light to all parts of the tree to allow it to thrive and grow more easily.
In reducing the size of a tree’s crown, we make sure to cut the branches in the correct way to not damage the tree and cause the limb the die. We ensure to prune the tree evenly to keep a good natural shape. When cutting a tree to clear a path or prevent an obstruction, it’s tempting to just cut that part back, but this can leave the tree lopsided which looks unsightly and can damage the tree.
Tree Pruning.
Similarly, when pruning a tree to either reshape it or to remove dead branches, it’s vital to do everything evenly to keep the tree’s shape looking natural and keep the weight evenly distributed.
Tree Pollarding.
Pollarded trees are most commonly found in cities but this type of tree trimming can be done anywhere where trees need to be restricted in how high they can grow but it can only be done to certain tree species. Pollarding is done by cutting trees almost right back to the trunk in some cases or to the desired height in others. New shoots which grow from these shortened branches are much thinner than the originals which continue to thicken so pollarded trees get that look where a large trunk ‘head’ forms with lots of small shoots sticking out of it.
Whichever service you need, our tree surgeons can give you expert advice on the best tree care to achieve the look or outcome you desire. If you’re unsure which type of tree cutting you need, just give us a call and we can advise you.
